LADIES AUXILIARY REPORT:

I hope everyone had a great Hallowe'en and got to see lots of goblins.  On a sad note, we lost Cliff Rasmussen on Oct 29th who was the husband of our life member, Helen Rasmussen.

On Nov 3rd we had our Ladies Auxilary flag carried by a cadet from 655 Squadron at the half-time show at BC Place Stadium during the "Salute to Veterans" BC Lions game and on Nov 11th, 17 year-old Kristine Slater from 655 Squadron will carry our flag as part of the flag party at the cenotaph.  She is a grade 12 student at McRoberts Highschool.

On Dec 2nd we will be having our annual Christmas cake walk, bake sale, craft table, and our in-house raffle.  You have a chance of winning a $50 loonie tree, $100 food hamper, seafood basket, a picture from Bill McMurray's Art Gallery and we hope to see you all there and thank you for your support to the Ladies Auxilary.

A.N.A.F. Unit 284 - - NEWSLETTER (Continued)

Following is a copy of the above published comments.....

The Army, Navy & Air Force Veterans in Canada is Canada's oldest veteran's association. Although their beginnings can be traced back before 1917, that was the year the government of Canada incorporated its' first name.  In 1946, Parliament recognized the association's welcoming of the Air Force by enacting its' official title, which still stands today.

Unit 284 in Steveston has 800 members who include senior war veterans and Canadian soldiers returning from Afghanistan.

What makes this association unique is the foundation in which it was built from.  Adding to this is its volunteer community work and their contributions of $50,000 to local community groups.  Many members are senior citizens who, instead of laying back in their golden years, continue to work quietly in the background for the betterment of the community. The association is also proposing to build a seniors residence on it Steveston property.

"Remember the veterans we have in Afghanistan" said Stan Mollett of the association. "We're trying to make a home for them when they come back".
